Knuth refers to prior examples like “soft-ware”, but those terms didn’t contain abbreviations (e.g. s-ware). I think that in the case of terms with abbreviations it helps to clarify the pronunciation. It also helps when the second word begins with the same letter as the abbreviated word.

I know that I’m fighting a losing battle. But I have to fight this one on principle!

Yeah, this is an obvious design flaw in my opinion. My original had it a bit worse than the norm, so now at least people can see my nose in chat. “My kingdom for a chin”.

Of course, Steve Jobs will tell us all we’re just holding it wrong. He must be double-jointed.

I took mine in to see the Apple Genius who compared other iPads in the store, but they all had the same bad angle as mine. Guess I’ll have to learn to live with it. Bummer!

Certainly the copy function doesn’t require a computer at all, and it will probably fax pages without a computer as well.

This isn’t to say that not being able to fax documents directly from your Mac isn’t a serious complaint. I agree that it should be clear from the labeling.

I don’t expect perfection. But I don’t think it’s too much to ask that they clearly label a bulleted list of features for each of the supported platforms. When they update their drivers to support more/different functionality, they can send stickers out to the dealers to place over the lists.

Tech retail marketing has become so concerned with the "checkmark war" that they perform a disservice to their customers.

In your case, it would be nice if the manufacturer would specify that if a new OS is released within x months or years, they will update their software. It isn’t the limitations that aggravate us, it’s the lack of transparency.

Had a similar problem with HP. They were too lazy to rewrite their scanner driver for leopard, so I lost scanning capability of my MFD when I upgraded my OS. The device isn’t even 4 years old. I had to buy VueScan for $40 just to get it to scan again.

You’re absolutely correct. This code was from an older build of Halide, and I should have updated it. I’ve used that nullable syntax in the past, but not very often. I will update the code accordingly.
